Course Description

The Virtual Backpack is an orientation designed to help you succeed in your online learning experience at Laredo College (LC). Online classes are a little different than what you might experience in courses on campus, and to be a successful online student, you will need your own set of tools to help you in your classes. The Virtual Backpack will help you learn how online courses work and see what online services are available to start your learning experience on the right foot.

To be better prepared for your online classes, we recommend completing this entire orientation. Take your time. You don't have to finish in one sitting: you can leave and resume where you left off at a later date. Now is your chance to get an idea of what to expect as an online student!

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this orientation course.

Course Objectives (CO)

Upon completion of the modules in the Virtual Backpack, you will learn:

To recognize the academic expectations of students and available academic resources
To foster a spirit of independence and self-direction through self-reflection and independent learning
To communicate effectively with the college community, peers, and faculty
To facilitate identification with the learning technologies required for online learning
To recognize how online classes work, and what your instructor will expect from you as an online student.
To identify the academic and student resources available to you as an online student.
To develop a sense of community in an online course.
To develop a plan for how to succeed when your online class begins.
To recognize that all online students are different and everyone has their own unique skills.
